Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced DB2 Mainframe Database Administrator (DBA) to support mission-critical systems for the State of West Virginia. This is a fully remote opportunity with a long-term contract, offering stability and the chance to make a meaningful impact on essential public sector services. Ideal candidates will bring deep expertise in DB2 on mainframe (z/OS) systems and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer and maintain DB2 databases on z/OS mainframe systems.
Optimize database performance through tuning and capacity planning.
Implement and manage backup, recovery, and high availability strategies.
Ensure database security, integrity, and availability.
Collaborate with application teams during development, testing, and deployment.
Proactively identify and resolve database issues to minimize downtime.
Document database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
Required Skills & Experience:
Hands-on experience with DB2 on z/OS mainframe environments.
In-depth understanding of database architecture, principles, and best practices.
Expertise in backup/recovery, performance tuning, and security management.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
Ability to work independently and manage tasks in a remote setup.
Experience with Integrated Eligibility Systems (IES) or similar government systems.
Familiarity with health and human services or public sector IT programs.
Work Environment:
100% Remote
Must be available to work during Eastern Time (ET) business hours
Long-term engagement with the possibility of multi-year extensions
